OpenGalaxy Plus
OpenGalaxy Plus is the UK 's leading automated realtime integrated library management system for public libraries.
OpenGalaxy Plus has been developed to build upon the success of the well established Galaxy system in use by approximately 30% of all public libraries in the UK. Its rich functionality comes from experienced librarians who understand the demands of delivering services to the public library market.
It is a powerful real-time transaction processing Library Management System (LMS), and highly parameterised to give library authorities maximum control over their management and control.
Driven by standards and adhering to an open systems architecture, OpenGalaxy Plus encompasses stock and circulation control, cataloguing, acquisitions, cash management, inter-library loans, management information, and public access facilities.
OpenGalaxy Plus is a flexible and innovative solution arising out of the unique Axiell approach of continually revising and updating products in close partnership with its customers.
OpenGalaxy Catalogue
The OpenGalaxy catalogue is at the heart of the system's integrated database design and is shared by all applications – acquisitions, circulation, interlending and public access.
The catalogue describes the collection of books, audio-visual items, music sets/scores and other media.
It is divided into customer-defined sections that represent a logical grouping of material so that predefined templates can be set up to aid rapid cataloguing. Searches can then be performed on the whole catalogue, or on selected sections. Each section can be further divided into format or media types (e.g. hardback, paperback, DVD) to further aid searching.
Although bibliographic data is held in MARC format, records may alternatively be maintained and displayed in a natural language subset. OpenGalaxy is ready to support the emerging MARC 21 and ISBN-13 standards.
OpenGalaxy Circulation
OpenGalaxy Circulation allows the Library Authority to set up and manage all aspects of a modern circulation system, including borrower information, loans, reservations, fines and charges of all kinds, and stock management.
Systems parameters allow each implementation to be tailored to suit each authority whether this be across all branches, individual or groups of branches, or for several independent local authorities coming together to share a catalogue in a multi-authority system.
OpenGalaxy Acquisitions
OpenGalaxy Acquisitions enables the Library Authority to automate ordering procedures, control expenditure and budgets, and implement a complete system of commitment accounting. Requisitions and orders can be created manually or electronically via EDI Quotes from book suppliers' CD-ROM selection tools and Internet services.
The module has a comprehensive facility that manages the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) of Quotes, Orders, Acknowledgements, and bibliographic data to further streamline the acquisitions process. EDI Invoicing is also available to manage fulfillments.
