Implementation Services

When a Library Authority makes the decision to change their library management system they want to know that the new supplier knows how to convert them from one system to another, as painlessly as possible.

Axiell has a great deal of experience in this process, having converted many systems over a period of more than 30 years, and a significant number during the last year.

Axiell has successfully implemented many public library management systems, during which a proven project management methodology has been developed. Axiell identifies a number of key staff to manage the project and communicate with the customer at all levels of management. Specialist skills, including application definition and training, configuration and mapping, systems integration, and installation, are delivered as part of the managed Project Plan.

A Project Manager is appointed and a formal project delivery plan developed and agreed with the customer to reflect the specific project requirements, including the minimization of any potential disruption of services to the public.

Key tasks when implementing a new library system are the data conversion from the incumbent system to OpenGalaxy, and the configuration of OpenGalaxy to use the converted data in the most effective way.

All data conversion takes place after discussion and agreement of mapping rules, and Axiell has wide experience of handling bibliographic data to enable a smooth transition in the building of system catalogues, retrospective conversion and on-going loading of records for use in acquisitions.

A training database is used during the migration process for data acceptance and for staff training and training documentation and acceptance test procedures provide library staff with a foundation for confidence testing of all OpenGalaxy applications.
