Training

At Axiell we believe that training is a major factor in the successful implementation of any system and contributes greatly thereafter to its smooth running. We always ensure that our staff are up-to-date with the current best practices and methodology.

Galaxy training

In the case of Galaxy, training may be directed towards application end users or systems management. Our experienced application consultants, many of whom have come from a library background themselves, undertake application training.

System training, specifically Unix and Ingres is undertaken by engineers fully trained and accredited by Sun to the Competence 2000 Scheme. Training may take place either on-site at the customers premises or at the Axiell Ferndown office in Dorset .

Axiell offers two distinct training models which enable customers to get the very best from their systems:

Train the Trainers

Although Axiell is happy to train to all levels if requested to do so, in our experience customers derive the greatest benefit from this programme which focuses on the training of key individuals. This is a tried and tested option which is ideally suited to libraries with a large number of staff preferring to implement their own internal training schedule for end users, in which they can emphasise local practice as well as system capabilities and procedures. Courses are held in advance of system installation. Training options include a remote access to a test system, or the installation of a local ‘training branch' based on a test database, which can incorporate the customer's own data.

Universal training

If appropriate, Axiell will use a model which , Axiell trains the staff directly responsible for the system itself.

On both cases Axiell will agree training objectives with the customer.

Calm Training

For training in Calm applications, Axiell staff will attend onsite to train your staff individually or in small groups in the environment in which you use the system, using your own data and tailoring sessions to your specific needs.

A typical Calm training session would involve up to five members of staff at a time, and, as well as a general overview, would concentrate on how best to use the system to carry out your daily collection management procedures. Flexibility is of course important, as each customer will inevitably have different needs from Calm.

Training may also take place by arrangement at Axiell office in Nottingham . These sessions normally include staff from more than one organisation.
