Axiell UK combines UK business areas to provide integrated cultural solution

Axiell combines its Public Library and Archives and Museums business areas in order to offer its customers a unique, integrated cultural solution

Nottingham, UK, February 2017 – Axiell UK, the leading supplier of IT systems and services to public libraries and the global leader for collections management solutions, is pleased to announce a major operational change to its business in the UK, which will see the merging of two of its primary business areas – the Public Library business and the Archives, special Libraries and Museums business (ALM), creating one team working collaboratively to benefit its customers.

Axiell’s purpose is to provide access to data. Its customers are part of a global community of archives, museums, libraries, schools and universities which Axiell works with to facilitate the sharing of, and access to, data from across the cultural sector in the UK. Working across the cultural sector, Axiell is in a unique position to be able to facilitate access to information on cultural heritage, collections, library catalogues or digital media from across archives, museums, libraries, schools and universities.

The change will also see the introduction of a new role; a local Managing Director who will take charge of the combined UK business, and in doing so offer added local focus in what is still a key market, with Axiell UK currently serving over 700 library and collections management customers.

Ben Sullivan, who will take on the role of UK Managing Director, takes over from Sven Totté, who has returned to a global role within Axiell. Ben, formerly General Manager, Europe and Middle East for Axiell’s ALM business will be based at our Manchester office. He has over 15 years’ experience working in the cultural sector and has worked with Axiell’s customers around the world, including on national museum projects in Australasia, the United Kingdom, USA, Qatar, UAE and Egypt. He is a regular presenter at conferences on the subjects of data management workflows, digital learning & museums, data visualisation, benchmarking and sustainable technology.

He says of the new way of working, “The market is changing and we know the demands on cultural institutions to create engagement and be accessible are high, in a tight economy. To ensure that we can meet those demands, we are evolving Axiell to help us leverage skills, products and services that we can deliver from a single source to ensure that we can work very closely with our customers, while being able to offer them something that is unique; a cultural solution that will let them explore new business models, and share resources and technologies across the entire authority. Our customers will be able to provide their communities with better access to information, and the patrons of these cultural services will not only be able to access more, but in a simpler, more user friendly and ultimately more useful way.”

The merging of the two business areas and the appointment of Ben as the new local manager will be effective as of the 13th of Feb 2017.
