Cost-Effective ICT For The Community

Many local authorities are responding to the need to deliver a more efficient and effective library service, coupled with the government’s Big Society vision by exploring the creation of a number of Community Libraries.

Community Libraries are as diverse in their models as the communities they service but share a common core that they should provide a recognisable library service to their community supported to some degree by their parent local authority. The service needs a cost effective and appropriate ICT infrastructure to deliver the electronic services expected of libraries and which make them such an effective part of the social inclusion programme delivered by government.

ICT Services to the Community

Axiell Community Libraries Service provides the ideal ICT framework for local authorities to ensure that Community Libraries have an appropriate, supported internet service with public Wi-Fi and access to a range of equipment to meet the needs of each individual library all provided by the UK’s leading ICT provider to public libraries - Axiell.

The service provides the community with free at the point of use Wi-Fi based internet access, tailored applications for volunteer-based library services, access to support services and inter-operation with the parent local authority’s systems. This is provided in a packaged service with Axiell as the one-stop service provider giving both the Community Library and parent authority confidence in the service delivery.

By delivering the service outside of the local authority ICT infrastructure Axiell can provide a far more cost-effective service than the current infrastructure while meeting local authority CoCo compliance requirements and delivering the managed safe service expected of public libraries.
