Viewpoint
ViewPoint is the OPAC software designed for use both within a library and by users accessing the catalogue from the Internet.
It provides the user with up-to-date information on library stock e.g. location, loan status (availability), as well as a number of self service functions which include:
- Self-service reservations via a shopping basket facility
- Self-service renewals including Quick Renew and individual and bulk renewals
- Online registration
- Reader Reviews
- Reading lists
- Borrower Comments
- Online payment of fines and charges
- Links to/from whichbook.net
- Authentication of registered library users to subscription databases
- Multiple language facilities
- Links to Amazon for borrowers who like to buy
Searching the catalogue
A wide range of searching options are offered and 'virtual catalogues' can be offered to the public, which reduces keying and improves search times for users.
Search results can be displayed in a number of ways to provide clear information to the user regarding the format of the titles found and the availability of items on the shelf, branch by branch.
Book jacket images, tables of content, and short/long abstracts, can be added to search results, even if this data is not stored in the library catalogue.
To enhance the searching experience for users additional facilities can also be offered:
- Search hit count – with Amazon-style page navigation
- Search histories – displays previous searches for current session
- Popular searches – what are other borrowers searching for?
- pre-defined Popular Search Sets
Printing from ViewPoint uses standard Web Browser printing facilities. For users accessing the catalogue in a library, additional print management solutions can be provided.
